Wellness Center PLUS
AMELIORATE - Rehabilitation Centre for the Depressed
Introduction
Furthering the thematic exploration of “engaging environment and community”, Project 2 calls for the design of a Wellness Center PLUS within the Kepong Botanical Gardens, bordering the suburban neighbourhood of Taman Ehsan. Students are required to provide full design proposals incorporating findings from precedent studies and site analysis. Students will generate narratives that respond to the environment and community as user group within the given context and explore environmental poetics of building enclosure’s design solutions that reduce environmental impact utilizing various complex typologies of spatial organisations and a variety of passive strategies for sustainable design. The design should contribute to and merge harmoniously with environment and site and provide the best of spatial experiences in fostering a sense of community.
Reflection
This has been the largest project throughout my study in Architecture so far, and thus has been a very interesting and rich experience. Following the site analysis and response project, we were to design our own individual projects based on what we decided the region needs. As such, I believe that as the demographic were primarily adults and elders, that depression may be a common theme. As studies have shown that depression is more common in the older age groups, especially that their children have moved out and have not many people to talk to and converse with.
I have named my project Ameliorate; which means "to become better".
I am very thankful for all the support and advice Ar. Shahira has provided. Thank you.
